Suburban Connect is a consortium of global leaders in tunnelling including CPB Contractors, Ghella and Acciona Construction delivering the Tunnels South package on Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East, on behalf of Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA).
We have a broad range of roles available to build our diverse and inclusive workforce, including construction and engineering, planning and environmental management, corporate support, administration, communications and many others.
SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill is now under construction, with tunnelling to start in 2026 and trains to be running by 2035.
Suburban Connect is constructing the 16kms of tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley using 4 tunnel boring machines and a range of excavation methods. The works also include 55 cross passages, 2 tunnel portal structures, 2 station box excavations and associated supports.
Purpose of the role:
Implement, support and monitor Safety and Health Management requirements, strategies and initiatives across Suburban Connect. Work with the Health and Safety Managers and the wider project team to provide guidance, clarity and support to lead the safety culture
The key responsibilities of the role include:
- Work with Construction Delivery teams in the planning of high-risk construction activities.
- Support teams in preparing for Construction Risk Assessment Workshops, or Operational Risk Reviews.
- Lead, where required, the design and delivery of specific programs, policies, initiatives and services and ensure high quality results are delivered to agreed deadlines
- Provide specialist support to internal stakeholders including operational leaders, project employees, contractors, clients and visitors.
- Lead client safety walks, outlining current scope and proactively addressing any identified issues.
- Recommend or assist in the development of solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
- Review and analysis health and safety data and promote high performance withing their assigned Precinct.
- Produce report in for key internal stakeholders (i.e. Construction Project Managers and Superintendents) in a timely manner.
We are looking for someone with:
- Formal qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
- Safety Lead Auditor Qualification
- Safety and Health experience (5 + years) in Construction and/or heavy industry and high-risk workplaces.
- Knowledge in Safety and Health Management Systems
- High level of analytical skills and knowledge to assist in data analysis and statistical calculations
- Knowledge of Safety and Health legislation and statutes, and ability to interpret any applicable statutes or legislation relevant to Project
- Ability to lead high level investigations involving multiple internal and external parties.
- Skills in monitoring, reviewing, investigative review techniques, reporting and continuous improvement on performance and compliance.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- High level of competency in Microsoft office suite, and the capability to learn other software applications
- Ability to guide and montor more junior members of the health and safety team (i.e. Advisors and Coordinators).
