About North East Link 

The Spark Consortium has been selected to deliver the Central Package of the North East Link Project - Victoria's biggest road project.

The Spark Consortium’s Design and Construction Contractor - which comprises Webuild, CPB Contractors, GS Engineering and Construction and China Construction Oceania - will deliver the twin three-lane tunnels and key interchanges for the project.

The Central Package will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership and provides three-lane twin tunnels that will close the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network from the M80 Ring Road to an upgraded Eastern Freeway, reducing journey times and diverting heavy vehicles away from local roads. Up to 135,000 vehicles will use North East Link every day, reducing congestion in the north-east while maintaining local roads.

About the Opportunity:

To support the delivery of the North East Link Central Package we are seeking applications from confident and dynamic Estimators or Engineers who are looking to take the next step in their career.  

Reporting to the Lead Estimator, the Estimator will contribute to the effective delivery of estimating services to the Project through best practice, problem solving and strong communication skills. Experience in estimating software Candy is essential. 

The team have a strong focus on growth and development and are looking for someone who is interested in progressing their career.

 As an Estimator, you will be accountable for:

  • Preparing accurate first principal estimates based on quantities, productivities, and rates to produce costing for the Project in accordance with Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS)
  • Assessing and verifying Project Cost Plans at each design phase for impact on the Project Costs
  • Preparing Scope of Work Change cost estimates for each SOW change for impact on the Project Costs
  • Working effectively with Spark NEL D&C teams including Procurement, Construction and Design.
  • Allocating estimates in accordance with NEL Cost Breakdown Structure for categorization and reporting  
  • Programing and sequence works in a practical and efficient manner
  • Demonstrating accurate analysis and assessment of subcontractor/ supplier and contractor quotes
  • Prepare and report to Senior Manager updated Project Costs
  • Undertaking productivity and benchmarking analysis
  • Partake in construction methodology reviews
  • Assemble Tender Schedule and budget for Procurement Packages

Minimum requirements for this role are

  • Tertiary qualification which relates to estimating e.g., Engineering, Building, Construction, or Quantity Surveying.
  • Proficiency in estimating software package: Candy CSS
  • Experience in Estimating, Cost Planning, Cost Control, Quantity Surveying or Engineering
  • Strong experience in a range of contracting models e.g., D&C, PPP, Alliance Contracts.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Knowledge of road infrastructure or underground projects
