About the role

As our next Senior Mining Engineer reporting to the Technical Services Manager you will oversee the execution of all aspects of the mine planning function and work collaboratively towards delivering high-quality solutions and results.

You will be responsible for ensuring production targets are met whilst maintaining a safety conscious, efficient, cost-effective and innovative work ethic.  Key duties will also include:

  • Overseeing the execution of all aspects of the mine planning function
  • Providing guidance and input into the pit design processes
  • Completing the end of month reconciliations and reporting process
  • Assessing opportunities to maximise equipment utilisation
  • Preparing inputs for the control budget process
  • Completing rehabilitation and water management designs
  • Liaising with production staff to ensure plans are being executed as per design
  • Providing guidance and technical support to other site engineers
  • Attending client meetings

Roster and Location

  • 5 days on 2 days off roster with monthly RDO’s
  • Full camp facilities and meals provided
  • Flights to/from Brisbane provided
  • The Lake Vermont Project is situated outside of Dysart, in Central Queensland.  This project is one of Thiess’ largest and longest running projects. 

About you

To be successful in this role you are required to have:

  • Prior experience working as a senior mining engineer
  • Extensive experience working as a mining engineer on an operational mine
  • Extensive open cut coal mining experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering
  • Proficient in MS Office and mine design, planning and scheduling packages;
    • Vulcan, Deswik;
    • Spry;
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills
