About the role

We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Lake Vermont project, reporting to the Technical Services Manager.  In this dynamic role you will provide Geotechnical support and assistance to the operation ensuring compliance with company and statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Promote and maintain high safety performance through personal commitment and application of safety policies and procedures
  • Provide Geotechnical support and assistance to the operation, ensuring that the operation complies with all the relevant company and statutory requirements.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a structural database and contribute towards continuous structural data acquisition
  • Ensure the Geotechnical Principal Hazard Management Plan and Geotechnical Design Guidelines remains fit for purpose and relevant to the project conditions 
  • Conduct regular Geotechnical Audits of the mining operations
  • Work with Mine Planning Engineers to optimise safe design criteria and support the mine design quality assurance and review process
  • Slope stability analysis and assessment of pit walls and waste dumps
  • Assessment of geotechnical hazards relating to the daily operations of the mine
  • Geotechnical monitoring planning and implementation
  • Awareness training for employees

  • The Lake Vermont Project is situated outside of Dysart, in Central Queensland.  This project is one of Thiess’ largest and longest running projects. 

About you

Role Requirements as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at Lake Vermont:

  • Bachelor’s degree in either Geotechnical Engineering or related disciplines
  • A minimum of four years’ experience, with specific experience and knowledge in rock mechanics
  • Experience with Vulcan, geotechnical design packages and Microsoft Office suite
  • A current driver's license
  • Knowledge of the QCMSH Act & Regulations and the QLD Engineers Act
  • Excellent analytical, management, organization and problem-solving skills
  • High level of written and oral communication skills
  • Geotechnical RPEQ status will be highly regarded
