About the role

As the Registered Principal Surveyor reporting to the Manager Spatial Service, your primary responsibility will be to provide statutory surveyor services to Thiess’s Queensland projects. You will be required to help ensure survey standards are established, maintained and supported using the correct equipment, processes and trained staff.

In this role, your accountabilities will include:

  • Coordinate survey personnel and methods on projects that have your Registered Surveyor responsibility
  • Maintain accurate statutory survey data for Queensland mining projects
  • Develop and review Thiess’s Project Governance System (PGS) survey operational and technical guidelines and standards
  • Perform timely audits and inspections to ensure compliance with the standards
  • Identify, communicate and facilitate survey systems that will improve site survey efficiency, accuracy and cost-effectiveness
  • Identify possible solutions in data capture, with an emphasis on the integration of spatial information
  • Manage the effective use of spatial data being captured

Location / Roster

As part of the head office team, you will fly in and out of Brisbane on an 8/6 roster where you will work across Thiess’ sites in the Bowen Basin.

About you

This role will suit a surveying leader who can link technical outcomes with financial results and has a broad knowledge of mine operation regulatory and legislative requirements with:

  • Extensive experience in mine surveying
  • Experience working on large scale, open-cut mining operations
  • Queensland Open-Cut Surveying Registration
  • Experience supervising Mine Surveyors to achieve Queensland statutory survey requirements
  • Proficient in Maptek, Vulcan and Points Studio
  • Proficient with photogrammetry techniques and associated software
  • Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Certification
