Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Design and Engineering Manager and working with internal and stakeholders as well as external clients and consultancies, you will manage the design process working on iconic Melbourne based projects during the planning phase of the project and supporting construction.

The Design Manager is responsible for delivering a robust and cost-effective design for the project, meeting the scope and technical requirements while in line with budget and program constraints.

As a Design Manager, you will:

  • Manage consultants in line with CPB’s design management systems and processes to ensure appropriate quality and safety standards are met 
  • Apply effective and innovative project design service solutions
  • Support the tender process by managing design components to deliver desired concepts
  • Drive innovation by influencing the relevant teams to deliver modern and sustainable proposal concepts
  • Establishing and agreeing the design concept to ensure it meets client requirements
  • Developing a design program
  • Managing design consultants in-line with our design management systems and processes to ensure appropriate quality and safety standards are met
  • Applying effective project design service solutions and incorporating constructability to achieve profitable outcomes
  • Aligning the client, subcontractors and internal personnel in respect to design issues during design and construction phase

Our minimum requirements for this role are:

  • Strong background in civil engineering design management
  • Encouraging the development of alternative design approaches and ensuring build-ability through reviews and assessment
  • A relevant tertiary qualification
  • Experience on major infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory and authority requirements
  • Experience in leading teams in complex design projects, documentation programming and review
  • Experience in managing the design process, cost planning, undertaking client and authority liaison, encouraging the development of alternative design approaches and ensuring build-ability through reviews and assessment
  • Ability to influence and develop relationships at all levels
